Face in the wind

There was a day– back in the day, when I wrote web pages for the simple fact that it made me happy. Back in ‘95 when I started there wasn’t any SpaceBook, MyFace or TweetFest happening.

My salad days,
When I was green in judgment, cold in blood,
To say as I said then!

It wasn’t much of a business then, but I let it become one for me for a while. I made some money, eventually turned it into a career, and somewhere along the line the fun drained right the fuck out of it.

What got me hooked was about freedom. I could write stuff on the web without asking anyone for permission, and anyone with a dial-up connection could read it. It was also about the technology being so new. I remember upgrading to Netscape 1.1, I remember loading IE 1.0 from the ‘95 plus CD and I remember (vividly) doing a homepage rewrite when HTML table support was still a new thing. I was finally able to abandon the 1px transparent .gif trick.

I made some nice friends. I called myself lipscitz back then (I wanted lipschitz but I got bitten by the 8 character limit on a lot of systems at the time). My page was called lipscitz’ scrawl. Now I believe I might start writing on the web again.

Be aware that this is my first shot at writing a theme for Wordpress and I am not sure it’s all working yet. No warranties are stated nor implied, your mileage may vary, offer void in the state of dementia.
